What Can You Do to Protect Your Home from Flood Damage?

Did you know that one in 50 insured homes has a property damage claim caused by water damage or freezing each year? These damages can cause personal and financial devastation for home and business owners. According to industry estimates from Water Damage Defense, 14,000 people in the United States experience a water damage emergency at home or work each day, and 98% of basements in the United States will suffer from some water damage during their lifetime. The costs stagger depending on the amount of damage. The average cost of an insurance claim for home water damage is $6,965.

Our environmental sensors can play a critical role in helping to prevent this devastation from happening to you.

How Do They Work?

Our flood detectors check for water every 22 seconds and give you the awareness to act quickly. They also will check for low temps helping to predict a potential pipe burst before it occurs. Using our app, Total Connect, the central station can send you text alerts or push notifications around the clock, so you are in the know from wherever you are.

As soon as you receive an alert, you are empowered to act before a small leak becomes a big problem.

We Can Help.

By installing monitored water detection sensors in key water leak areas, you can get an alert about a leak, even when you’re away. We suggest placing a monitored water sensor near the sump pump, washer, underneath your sinks, and anywhere else there might be a risk of water leaks. Adding monitored water sensors to your current security system can:

  1. Monitor leaks in basements, under sinks, and behind appliances
  2. Minimize damages and costly repairs
  3. Help decrease the risk of mold
  4. Pinpoint leaks that contribute to higher water bills

You Can Help.

In addition to monitored sensors, there are simple things you can do in your home to reduce your risk.

  1. Locate the main water cut-off valve for your home.
  2. Watch for signs of small leaks like watermarks on floors and moisture around pipes and faucets.
  3. Pipes in basements or exterior walls are vulnerable to bursting during cold weather. Seal off cracks that let cold air near these pipes.  Wrap them in insulation and let them drip when temperatures drop below freezing.
  4. Have a plumber regularly inspect and maintain your water heater, sump pump, and pipes.
